Internships

Many of our staff started their careers in the performing arts as interns somewhere, so we know the value of an internship to get a foot in the door and a leg up in the working world. That’s why the Straz Center is proud to provide internships to qualified college students who want hands-on experience within their fields of study. Straz interns get professional experience, mentoring and serious responsibilities in their work load and workplace expectations. Our goal is to offer a well-rounded experience that gives our interns skills and knowledge that will directly impact their desirability for a company or organization in their field.

Internships in all departments may not always be available.  Open internships are posted here, as well as on the Career Services websites of many local area colleges.

    Summer Theater Internship Program

    Participants of the Patel Conservatory summer internship have gone on to work for professional companies including the Barter Theatre, Portland Stage, Jobsite Theatre, Timeless Tales Theatre, Patel Conservatory, and Opera Tampa. Working for the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center provides emerging theater artists and educators the opportunity to network with theater professionals and research careers in the industry.

    Our Ideal Candidate

    • Has completed their sophomore year of an undergraduate program.
    • Is currently enrolled in a college theater or communications degree program.
    • Works well in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

    Available Internships for Summer 2023​

    Theater Teaching Artist
    Act as both a co-teacher and lead teacher in a variety of themed summer camps, assist with outreach programming, and act as assistant director for a summer production.

    Assistant Stage Manager 
    Support the stage manager with three professionally produced, student performed summer season musicals and perform other technical duties during production mode.
