Ushers
As an usher, you greet our guests, provide information, direct guests to their seats and ensure their safety and comfort. Our guests and the audience experience is your top priority, and you have the bonus of being able to see top notch shows and artists while you work your shift. As an usher, you’ll have to be able to stand for long periods of time and be okay with heights to work the highest levels in Morsani Hall. Ushers must complete The Straz comprehensive training program which includes a facility tour, on-site training and hands-on shadowing/partnering with an experienced usher who will help show you the ropes. Due to the training and show schedule, it may take up to two months for prospective ushers to complete the New Usher Training Program, so we ask that you be patient as we get you on board.
Donor Lounge Hosts
Do you love to smile? Are you often complimented on your suave skills as a party host? Then consider becoming a Donor Lounge Host. You’ll welcome individuals and corporate donors to the Bravo Club before show time and during intermission.
Retail Volunteers
If you have a knack for giving five star customer service and an interest in the merch side of show business, we sure could use you as a Retail Volunteer. You’ll assist in all aspects of the Straz Center’s retail operation, including customer service, store merchandising and cleaning, and pricing new merchandise for our lobby gift kiosks. Since you’re in the lobbies, you’re highly visible, so you’ll also get to interact with Straz guests to offer directions, answer questions and provide information about the music, theater, education programs and more.
Will Call
With hundreds of shows each season, our Ticket Office welcomes extra hands and happy faces as Will Call volunteers. You’ll get to assist the fun-loving crew in our Ticket Sales Office by locating and distributing tickets to guests who have pre-purchased tickets and wish to pick them up on site at the Will Call window.
Administrative
Maybe you enjoy quiet tasks in a stimulating environment but don’t really want to be a point person for the public or commit to a regular schedule. That is just fine! We have a place for you helping with administrative projects and tasks that require volunteers on an “as needed” basis. In a nonprofit the size of The Straz, we often need help with filing, data entry, creating or maintaining spreadsheets, mailings, photocopying and collating — the very necessary but unglamorous work of running the business part of show business. If you appreciate the fine art of organizing and pride yourself in being able to execute simple instructions to the letter, we’d love to have you join us as an Administrative Volunteer.
PLEASE NOTE: For security purposes, we can’t accept anyone under the age of 18 as a volunteer. You will need to complete a criminal background check before you can volunteer — but no sweat, we will pay for it.
If you are interested in volunteering at the Straz Center, please complete the Volunteer Application.
Performance schedules, performance descriptions and sign-up forms will be available once you log in. If you work in multiple areas, check each area to obtain current information. Each area will also contain area-related news in addition to a quarterly Straz Center Volunteer Newsletter.
