The Straz jazz team works with high school bands, orchestras and music students increasing their understanding, appreciation and technical skills.
Every other year, including 2021, the Straz Jazz Project presents a live jazz orchestra concert featuring student musicians performing original compositions and selections from the great American jazz songbook. The joyous performance is the culmination of many hours of technique workshops and collaborations with music teachers plus local and national jazz professionals that showcases the students’ continued mastery of a music genre rooted in the African American communities of New Orleans.
