ELGAR'S ENIGMA VARIATIONS

The Florida Orchestra

Dates

May 17, 2024 - May 17, 2024

Venue

Ferguson Hall

Featuring Brahms’ Double Concerto

Michael Francis, conductor
Jeffrey Multer, violin
Yoni Draiblate, cello

Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin
Brahms: Double Concerto
Elgar: Enigma Variations

Michael Francis leads a program connected by friendship. In Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, each movement aims to capture the essence of a friend he lost in World War I. Concertmaster Jeffrey Multer on violin and Principal Cello Yoni Draiblate team up for Brahms’ Double Concerto, composed as a peace offering to a longtime friend. It was Brahms’ final work. In Enigma Variations – including the emotional Nimrod movement – Elgar adapts an original tune into 14 musical caricatures of his friends.

Bonus! For every Masterworks concert, Michael Francis has personally chosen a surprise “mystery piece” to enhance the live experience. What will it be this weekend?

PRE-CONCERT CONVERSATIONS: Get the real story behind the composers and their music, straight from the conductor and guest soloists. Starts one hour before each Masterworks concert in the theater. Included free with each concert ticket.
