TCHAIKOVSKY'S SYMPHONY NO. 6

The Florida Orchestra

Dates

Jan 19, 2024 - Jan 19, 2024

Venue

Ferguson Hall

Earl Lee, conductor

Stella Chen, violin

Valentin Silvestrov: Prayer for Ukraine (arr. Resatch)

Barber: Violin Concerto

Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6, “Pathetique”

“I love it as I have never loved any one of my musical offspring before,” Tchaikovsky said of his Symphony No. 6, “Pathetique.” Is the tender, beautiful work a declaration of forbidden love? Tchaikovsky died just 10 days after he conducted the premiere in 1893. Barber’s lyrical Violin Concerto is in the hands of international award-winning violinist Stella Chen, and the evening begins with a meditative arrangement of Valentin Silvestrov’s Prayer for Ukraine.

Bonus! For every Masterworks concert, Michael Francis has personally chosen a surprise “mystery piece” to enhance the live experience. What will it be this weekend?

PRE-CONCERT CONVERSATIONS: Get the real story behind the composers and their music, straight from the conductor and guest soloists. Starts one hour before each Masterworks concert in the theater. Included free with each concert ticket
