D’Angelo Young Artist Vocal Competition

Launched by Opera Tampa League past-board chair Gina d’Angelo as a living legacy to her parent’s internationally successful program, the D’Angelo Young Artist Competition in Erie, Pennsylvania, this competition builds the opera artists of tomorrow. 

This program is made possible through the d’Angelo Family Endowment Fund for Vocal Education.

Contest Application and Criteria

The D'Angelo Young Artist Vocal Competition offers a 1st prize of $5,000 cash plus a role in an Opera Tampa production in an up-coming Opera Tampa season, 2nd prize of $2,500 cash, 3rd prize of $1,000 cash and an audience favorite award of $500 cash. The prizes will be awarded on the day of the competition.

Competition History

    This competition is dedicated to George D’Angelo, MD and his wife Mary Talotta D’Angelo for their love of the arts and commitment to helping young artists achieve their dreams.

    In 1976, the D’Angelos were asked to support Mercyhurst University’s fledgling piano competition and the D’Angelo Young Artist Competition was born.

    Inspired by Mary’s love of opera, the competition is now focused on voice and will be called the D’Angelo Young Artist Vocal Competition, making this the 26th year for this esteemed tradition created by Dr. and Mrs. George D’Angelo in Erie, PA.
